LAURE KOSEY ELECTED TO THE AMERICAN ACADEMY FOR PARK AND RECREATION ADMINISTRATION

Oak Brook IL – Laure Kosey, Executive Director at the Oak Brook Park District, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. Their induction was officially recognized during the Academy’s General Membership Meeting held on September 16th in Orlando, Florida.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN NATIONAL DAY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

November 4th is National Day of Community Service. Join us on this important day to make a difference! We will take a trip to Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a nonprofit organization that strives to reduce the millions of children who die from under-nutrition. Hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old.

FALL PREVENTION AWARENESS DAY

Falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults, but they don’t have to be! September 22nd is Fall Prevention Awareness Day. In this engaging presentation, Mirette Mikhail, physical therapist, will provide you with insights into fall risk factors. She will discuss fall prevention, lower body strengthening, and how to improve safety in and out of the home. Join historian Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., for a look at how this movie came to be and why it has become such an enduring seasonal favorite. THE MOVIE AND MUSIC OF GREASE PRESENTED BY TIM WISLEY

Join historian Tim Wilsey as he takes us back to the era of 1950`s to celebrate The Movie and Music of Grease! The movie came out in 1978 but the 1950`s was very much alive in Pop Culture in the 70`s. Tim will be discussing how the movie was made, what up and coming stars were considered for lead roles but turned them down and how John Travolta and Olivia Newton John became household names. Don’t forget the music! The Grease Soundtrack was a big seller, and we will relive those great songs that made Grease one of popular musicals in recent years!

GROWING UP IN THE 50’S AND 60’S PRESENTED BY LESLIE GODDARD

Did you grow up in the days when cars had tailfins, girls wore circle skirts, and a milkman delivered fresh milk right to your house? In this nostalgic workshop, we will look back at what life was like for kids in the 50’s and 60’s, from the hairstyles to the cars to TV dinners. Check out some vintage paper dolls, S&H Green Stamps and Tupperware bowls. Listen to hit songs from Rosemary Clooney and Elvis Presley and revisit favorite dances.
