Oak Brook Park District’s “the Pink 5k event means community for a cause,” shared Renee Montgomery with Evergreen Bank Group. “I love the Pink 5k because it gives the community a great reason to gather and enjoy each other, while helping people we don’t know (yet) by raising funds for breast cancer research.”

This year marks the event’s 10th anniversary as well as thousands of lives positively impacted. Over $80,000 has been raised for Hinsdale Hospital Foundation’s Open Arms Breast Cancer Outreach Fund which provides free mammograms to women in need, due to lack or insufficiency of insurance.

“Wouldn’t it be a blessing if some day breast cancer is eradicated from this earth?” Renee added. “That is why I continue to support the Pink 5k.”

Renee isn’t the only team member with Evergreen Bank Group that views this event as a community for a cause.

Christine Vacek with the bank has done the race for the past 10 years. “To me, the Pink 5k is not just about raising awareness and money for breast cancer. It is about the community coming together to support each other.”

This year’s 10th anniversary event will look different than in year’s past due to COVID-19. However, even a global pandemic cannot stop the Oak Brook community and beyond from coming together in their own way to support one another.

Heather Haas, Evergreen Bank Group team member and first-time participant in the Pink 5k shared, “My grandma died of metastatic breast cancer and my sister had a mastectomy due to breast cancer only a few years ago. My husband also just passed away this May of pancreatic cancer after only being diagnosed the month before.”

Heather added, “I think the Pink 5k is a wonderful community event and charitable donation to be a part of. It’s a way to give of yourself to help others. That’s always a good thing.”

The Oak Brook Park District strives to find innovative and fun ways for the community to come together to create positive change for our residents, neighbors, and friends.

“This year’s event marks much more than only 10 years of running the race. Thousands of people have made a positive impact in the lives of over 500 women who have gone through the Open Arms Breast Cancer Outreach program,” shared Mike Delgado, race director with the Oak Brook Park District. “Each and every one of those people has a story to share, and we honor them this year, and every year, with our Pink 5k race.”

Renee added, “My company, Evergreen Bank Group, has been co-sponsor of the event since I’ve worked for them. I’m inspired by my company’s generosity and the good work of the Oak Brook Park District as our partner. But it’s also the people that are in the race – their commitment to help others. I want to be part of this great group of people!”

The Oak Brook Park District could not be more grateful for the time and support of all of their partners, especially the presenting sponsors Evergreen Bank Group and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Centers Hinsdale & La Grange.
