Some of Oak Brook’s history lives inside historic buildings. Some of it is along the trails, roads, and landscapes people pass every day. Now, a new self-guided historical bike tour offers a way to experience some of those places firsthand.
Created by the Oak Brook Park District, with input from the community organizations and historic sites featured along the route, the six-mile tour brings together seven locations that each tell a different piece of Oak Brook’s story.
The result is a tour that combines Oak Brook’s natural landscape, pioneer heritage, polo history, and historic Fullersburg landmarks into one scenic bike ride. Riders can complete the route at their own pace, with the full tour taking approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Along the way, the route offers a glimpse into the people, places, and landscapes that helped shape Oak Brook.
“We’re always looking for ways to offer experiences that help people connect recreation and community,” said Laure Kosey, Executive Director of Oak Brook Park District. “This tour is a great example of that, combining a bike ride with the opportunity to discover more about Oak Brook’s history along the way.”
A printed trifold with the tour route and information about each stop is available for pickup at the Family Recreation Center, the Oak Brook Historical Society’s Heritage Center, and York Tavern.
The Oak Brook Historical Bike Tour offers more than a route through town. It is a chance to discover the stories that are still part of Oak Brook’s landscape today.
