Summer Notice: Lightning Warning System
Oak Brook Park District’s Lightning Prediction System is in operation from April - November.
ONE PROLONGED BLAST OF THE HORN(Flashing Light ON): Immediately seek shelter in a vehicle or building, conditions are right for generating lightning. Per District rules, ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITY MUST CEASE. AVOID: Open areas, water, tall trees, metal fences, cellular phones, and radios. Re-locating to the indoor pool is not permitted under current COVID-19 capacity restrictions.
THREE FIVE-SECOND BLASTS: All clear signal-risk of lightning has diminished.
If inclement weather is expected, patrons will not be charged for their reservation unless they arrive at the facility, at their own risk. Refunds will not be processed due to weather closings, as we keep staff on hand and operate the facility until we know we must close. The pool will re-open if the storm passes quickly. Free passes will be handed out by the Front Desk for closings that occur in the first half of the time slot. No refunds, nor passes, will be given out if at least 50% of the time slot has been enjoyed. This policy will only be in place for instances where the facility was open and closes suddenly in response to the Thor-Guard and/or lightning while we are in the Bridge Phase. This policy will no longer be in place once DuPage County and/or Illinois are moved to Phase 5.
