Choose to Lose Team Weight-Loss Challenge is back for 2012!

Teams of four will compete in weekly challenges and weigh-in’s to lose pounds and earn prizes. There will be weekly prizes for challenge winners as well as prize packages and plaques for the top three teams. The individual that has the largest percentage of weight loss (by using percentage of weight loss, teams that weigh less are not at a disadvantage) will also win a prize package and plaque. Weekly weigh-in’s and challenges give teams an opportunity to track their progress. The top four teams from each weekly challenge will be rewarded with pounds deducted from their overall team weight. Teams will also receive a one hour group personal training session, guest passes, Oak Brook Park District “Choose to Lose” apparel, and body composition analysis.

General Participation Information

Teams must sign up together by Thursday, January 5, 2012.

•Cost: $160/Team. Teams that are made up of four OBPD fitness members will receive a $20 discount.

•Choose to Lose begins the week of 1/9/12

•All Choose to Lose teams will receive a one hour group personal training session to kick start the program.

•Choose to Lose participants will have weekly weigh-in’s, weekly fitness challenges, and weekly homework challenges.

•The top four teams of each weekly fitness challenge will receive pounds deducted from their total team weight.

•Teams that complete the weekly homework challenges will receive pounds deducted from their total team weight.

•Winners are determined by percentage of weight loss so teams that weigh less are not at a disadvantage.

•The three teams that have the largest percentage of weight loss at the end of the program will receive prize packages. Winning teams will be determined by the largest percentage of weight loss. This is calculated by taking the beginning total team weight, subtracting the final total team weight, dividing by the beginning total team weight, and multiplying by 100. By using percentage of weight loss, teams that weight less are not at a disadvantage.

•The individual that has the largest percentage of weight loss will also receive a prize package. Percentage of weight loss is calculated by taking the beginning total team weight, subtracting the final total team weight, dividing by the beginning total team weight, and multiplying by 100. By using percentage of weight loss, teams that weight less are not at a disadvantage.

•All program events must be completed during weekdays (there is no weekend availability)

•Each team member will receive: Choose to Lose apparel; a 25-Pass Punch Card to access our fitness center; one 60-minute group personal training session; and two body fat assessments.

Teams

•Each team member must be at least 18 years of age, and each team must consist of four individuals with at least one female.

•Each team must have a Team Captain. This person will be responsible for coordinating their weekly teams weigh-in and challenge times with the program director. This person must have access to e-mail. The team captain will be the only person who receives weekly standings and updates and will be responsible for passing this information on to teammates (all communication from the program director will be via e-mail).

•It is encouraged and recommended that teams pick a specific day and time to meet each week in advance. Teams can then reserve that day and time slot for the entire eight-week program.

•Once on a team, you will be part of their statistics until the end. You cannot “quit.” If you do drop out, your last weigh-in will follow you and the team until the end of the competition.

Weekly Weigh-Ins

•Teams have the option to weigh-in together weekly. Weekly weigh-ins occur after the weekly challenge. Weigh-ins are required on Week 1, Week 4 and Week 8. Only the initial weigh-in and final weigh-in will be compared when determining winners; all other weigh-ins are to track progress.

•An electronic impedance scale will be utilized for all weigh-ins. Individuals with a pacemaker cannot be weighed in. All individuals weighing in will be required to remove their shoes and socks.

•Weekly weigh-in times must be set up with the program director via e-mail at least 24 hours in advance (no weigh-ins will be allowed on the weekends).

Weekly Challenges

•Each week teams may undergo an optional “Weekly Fitness Challenge” at the Oak Brook Park District. This will be an opportunity for teams to earn pounds deducted from their total weight. Challenges will be short (no longer then 15 minutes) and will give advantage to those teams that have full participation.

•Challenges cannot be done individually.

•Challenges require at least two team members and give advantage to those teams who have all four team members participate.

•Challenges must be set up in advance by the team captain communicating with the program director. No challenges will be available on the weekends.

•The top four teams from each weekly challenge will have the following pounds deducted from their total team weight loss:
-First Place: 4 lbs
-Second Place: 3 lbs
-Third Place: 2 lbs
-Fourth Place: 1 lb

•Weekly challenge information will be posted on the Choose to Lose web page prior to each challenge.

New! Homework Challenges

•New this year are weekly Homework Challenges. Each week the program director will assign teams a challenge to complete on their own time. If the ENTIRE team completes the challenge, the team will be rewarded with pounds deducted from their total weight. Homework challenges will be exercise and nutrition challenges designed to guide participants towards their health and fitness goals.

•Homework challenge information will be posted on the Choose to Lose web page prior to each challenge. Teams that complete the homework challenge will receive three pounds deducted from their total team weight loss.
