A closed session to discuss the purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body will be conducted at the December 17, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Oak Brook Park District Board of Commissioners.
On November 6, 2018, Oak Brook Park District residents approved a referendum to purchase and improve the 34 acres commonly known as the McDonald’s Soccer Fields located north of Central Park. Following the successful referendum, park district officials contacted McDonald’s officials to discuss the future of the property.
The Park Board’s December 17 Regular Meeting Agenda includes items 9 (closed session to discuss the purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body) and 12(a) (Resolution 18-1222, a Resolution for the Approval of a Real Estate Sales Contract for the Real Property Commonly Known as “McDonalds Soccer Fields”).
According to the Open Meetings Act, the purchase or lease of real property for the use of public body is one of several important matters that may be discussed in closed session. This protects property values for businesses and citizens because it prevents the market from reacting to information on the real estate acquisitional needs of public bodies. Final action on any contract to purchase real estate must be taken in open session.
