2021 Bath & Tennis Members and Waitlist:

We wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on the pool construction and memberships for the 2021 Bath & Tennis season.  As you may be aware, the Village has been working to refurbish all three pools since the end of the 2019 season. When the COVID-19 pandemic came upon us, almost all work stopped for the 2020 season.  Specifically, the Illinois Department of Public Health shut down for several months and would not issue any work permits.  Once things began to open up and permits were obtained, the Village contacted the contractor to begin working as diligently as possible to make sure the pool would be open for Memorial Day weekend.

Unfortunately, this week the Village was notified by the contractor that they are still waiting on a delivery of resin for the pool lining.  The resin supplier has stated that delivery is expected within a week, but warned that the manufacturer has already pushed back delivery once due to a national resin shortage due to factory shutdowns in Texas during the February freeze.  The matter was further complicated when the factory of a secondary supplier of resin was severely damaged in a major fire.

We anticipate having updated information this Friday, May 7th as to the availability and ship date of the resin.  Additionally, as this is a multi-day application process, any type of rain will further a delay.  At this point, it is quite possible the opening of the pool on Memorial Day weekend will be delayed.

Finally, as you may have heard the Park District has stopped taking memberships for the pool.  Presently, they have 298 memberships, which is far more than we have ever had before.  Out of those memberships, 250 are family memberships, 197 of the memberships are out of town and 101 are from Oak Brook residents.   Under restrictions by the State of Illinois, we are limited to 50% capacity at the pool.  The normal capacity is 300 people. In anticipation of the Governor relaxing restrictions further, the Park District has begun to compile a “Waiting List” of people who wish to become members.  The Park District is still selling Tennis Only memberships.  If you are interested in getting on the waitlist, please contact Dave Thommes at dthommes [at] obparks.org

This year, our goal was to showcase our renovation and make opening weekend an incredible experience after a year of lock-downs.  We understand that people want to get back to normal. We share your frustration, not only with the delay in obtaining materials to complete the pool renovation but also the State guidelines that continue to restrict our capacity.

Both the Village and the Park District will work tirelessly to make sure your experience is exceptional this year.  We will send you an updated email and will post any new information to the Village of Oak Brook’s and the Oak Brook Park District’s websites and social media pages when we receive it.

Sincerely,
