Parents with preschool age children are invited to Oak Brook Park District's ABC Preschool Open House on Wednesday, April 3. This is a drop-in program from 9:30am-11am.
Parents will have an opportunity to tour the school's state-of-the-art classrooms while class is in session, meet the staff, and observe our innovative curriculum at work. The Oak Brook Park District's partnership with Butler School District 53 and the LaGrange Area Department of Special Education (LADSE) has fostered the development of an inclusive and unique curriculum designed to lay the foundation for academic success and spark a life-long love of learning.
The partnership also provides the opportunity for specialized services to be provided through an integrated model, which is beneficial to the development of all students. The Oak Brook Park District preschool's inclusive philosophy works to ensure that teaching and support staff will, as far as possible, be responsible for the implementation of individual family service plans within the context of the program. "A special education teacher, speech pathologist, and physical and occupational therapists are onsite and provide additional support, resources and teaching strategies for our students. This therapeutic staff is also instrumental at recognizing a child’s challenges and can help guide a plan so everyone is learning in a way that works for them," says Karen Spandikow, Oak Brook Park District's Assistant Director of Recreation.
Observe ABC Preschool's creative curriculum: a play-based curriculum in action at the open house! In working with the award-winning Butler School District 53, ABC Preschool staff has implemented the creative and age-appropriate curriculum designed to enrich individual social, emotional, and intellectual growth so students are well prepared for kindergarten, and beyond. Close communication with Butler School District 53 ensures that staff is focused on important Kindergarten readiness skills and lessons are fresh, engaging, and effective.
Don't forget to see the play spaces! ABC Preschool students also have the benefit of a learning environment that has access to large age-appropriate outdoor playgrounds, indoor gymnasiums and play equipment. "We get students outside to play frequently because outdoor play is essential to the development of all children. It boosts creativity, burns energy, reduces stress, builds social skills, and helps children learn how to navigate risk," says Spandikow.
There are no residency requirements to enroll in Oak Brook Park District's ABC Preschool. In fact, parents that work in Oak Brook may be eligible for resident tuition rates. The Sapling (4-year old) program has a full day (9-3pm) option that has been very popular in the past couple of years. 2-day, 3-day, and 5-day half day (9-11:30am) options are also available. The Acorns (3-year old) program has 2-day, 3-day, and 5-day half day options. There are also several enrichment classes offered each school year to extend half day programs and allow children to further explore areas of interest like science or reading.
ABC Preschool is located in Cori's Way, a secured wing of the Family Recreation Center, 1450 Forest Gate Road in Oak Brook. Parents that wish to attend the Open House are welcome to drop-in between 9:30am-11am. For questions about the open house or our preschool program, please contact Karen Spandikow.
